A Medieval Heart in Modern Times
The world is loud with wires and speed,
A rush of steel, a digital creed;
But in my soul, a quiet ache,
For older paths I cannot take.
I dream of keeps on verdant hills,
Of flowing streams and turning mills;
Not concrete gray and endless noise,
But simple life and simpler joys.
To walk in mail, a shining knight,
And fight for honour, truth, and right;
To hear the minstrel's gentle lay,
At close of a long, honest day.
The stars above the castle wall,
The quiet chapel's solemn call;
A time of faith, though life was hard,
Where virtue stood a truer guard.
No screens to blind, no pace to chase,
Just human touch in time and space;
I yearn for realms of "long ago",
A homesick soul, I feel it so.
Though centuries divide the land,
My heart is from that distant strand;
A ghost in time, I linger here,
And wish the age of chivalry were near.
